The Queensland State Emergency Service Volunteer Association Inc. (QLDSESVA) is committed to protecting your privacy and providing technology that gives you the most powerful and safe online experience. This Privacy Statement (Statement) applies to the QLDSESVA website www.qldsesva.org.au and governs data collection and usage through this site. What Personal Information is Collected and Stored

Personal Information is information or an opinion that identifies an individual. QLDSESVA collects personally identifiable information such as your e-mail address, name, home or work address or telephone number. QLDSESVA also collects anonymous demographic information, which is not unique to you, such as your ZIP code, age, gender, preferences, interests and favourites.

There is also information about your computer hardware and software that is automatically collected by QLDSESVA. This information can include: your IP address, browser type, domain names, access times and referring website addresses. This information is used by QLDSESVA for the operation of the service, to maintain quality of the service, and to provide general statistics regarding use of the QLDSESVA website.

Please keep in mind that if you directly disclose personally identifiable information or personally sensitive data through QLDSESVA public message boards, this information may be collected and used by others. QLDSESVA does not read any of your private online communications.

We collect your Personal Information for the primary purpose of providing our services to you, providing information to our clients and marketing. We may also use your Personal Information for secondary purposes closely related to the primary purpose, in circumstances where you would reasonably expect such use or disclosure. You may unsubscribe from our mailing lists at any time by contacting us in writing. When we collect Personal Information, we will, where appropriate and where possible, explain to you why we are collecting the information and how we plan to use it.

 Use of Personal Information

QLDSESVA collects and uses personal information to operate the QLDSESVA website and deliver the services you have requested. QLDSESVA also uses your personally identifiable information to inform you of other products or services available from QLDSESVA and its affiliates. QLDSESVA may also contact you via surveys to conduct research about your opinion of current services or of potential new services that may be offered.

QLDSESVA does not sell, rent or lease its customer lists to third parties. QLDSESVA may, from time to time, contact you on behalf of external business partners about a particular offering that may be of interest to you. Members of the QLDSESVA have access to view and modify their own personal information via the organisation’s software systems including its membership database and website. 

Other members of the general public who have reason to contend that the QLDSESVA has retained their personal information either correctly or incorrectly may request the access, removal or modification of their information by contacting The Secretary, QLDSESVA via email at secretary@qldsesva.org.au.  We aim to respond to all such requests within 30 days. If we believe it is necessary, we may ask for additional information to identify you to ensure that such requests are properly authorised.

Retention of personal information

We will not keep your personal information for longer than we need to. In most cases, this means that we will only retain your personal information for the duration of your relationship with us unless we are required to retain your personal information to comply with applicable laws, for example record-keeping obligations.

The QLDSESVA website may contain links to websites operated by third parties. If you access a third- party website through our website(s), personal information may be collected by that third party website. We make no representations or warranties in relation to the privacy practices of any third-party provider or website and we are not responsible for the privacy policies or the content of any third party provider or website.  Third-party providers / websites are responsible for informing you about their own privacy practices. QLDSESVA encourages you to review the privacy statements of websites you choose to link to from the QLDSESVA site so that you can understand how those websites collect, use and share your information. QLDSESVA is not responsible for the privacy statements or other content on websites outside of the QLDSESVA.

Where we disclose your personal information to third parties overseas, we will take reasonable steps to ensure that data security and appropriate privacy practices are maintained. The QLDSESVA welcomes feedback regarding this Statement and its operation. If you believe that QLDSESVA has not adhered to the contents of this Statement, please contact The Secretary, QLDSESVA by email at secretary@qldsesva.org.au. We will use commercially reasonable efforts to promptly determine and remedy any issues or concerns. Please allow up to 30 days for the QLDSESVA to respond to your complaint.

We understand it will not always be possible to resolve a complaint to everyone’s satisfaction. If you are not satisfied with the QLDSESVA’s response to a complaint, you have the right to contact the Office of Australian Information Commissioner (at www.oaic.gov.au/) to lodge a complaint.

Changes to this Statement

QLDSESVA will occasionally update this Statement to reflect company and customer feedback. QLDSESVA encourages you to periodically review this Statement to be informed of how QLDSESVA is protecting your information.
