WELLBEING FUNDRAISER

A fellow member needs help!

Adriaan Greyling, Local Controller, Barcaldine Unit

You may remember last year Local Controller Adriaan Greyling, Barcaldine Unit was involved in a life changing accident. Adriaan was abseiling and fell a significant distance; as a result he is now permanently confined to a wheelchair.  Adriaan’s level of injury is classified as a T8 complete, which means from the thoracic vertebrae down (waist), the brain can’t send signals and he has neither feeling nor movement.  Adriaan is going to require assistance to make alterations to his lifestyle.

Adriaan has been in the SES assisting the community for 8 years and as a local controller of his region for the past 2 years where his unit considers him to be an amazing member, leader and colleague.  In the spirit of SES, Adriaan dedicates so much to his team, the agency and his community, for this commitment we now want to give back.  As part of the Wellbeing Program we have visited Adriaan in hospital and are humbled to see him overcoming the challenges he faces.  Adriaan’s dedication to his team, the volunteers and the community is amazing as he continues working from his hospital bed organising the future of the unit and h committed to continuing his volunteer work.

Consequently, the Queensland State Emergency Service Volunteer Association has opened a bank account for Adriaan and in conjunction with Queensland State Emergency Service are inviting not only the orange community but the community far and wide to help raise funds to assist Adriaan with the significant life changes ahead.
